Established as a round of the Spanish championship for many years, the event was a newcomer to the IRC in 2010. Based in Las Palmas on the island of Gran Canaria, the asphalt rally is a mixture of undulating roads and narrow and fast sections. The surface is abrasive meaning grip levels are high but tyre wear can be at a premium. Harbourside service park remains one of the rally’s endearing features.

Sata Rallye Açores produced a scintillating finish when it hosted the IRC for the second time in July 2010 thanks to a succession of changes to the leading positions on the final day of the event. Barum Czech Rally Zlin Czech Republic - Asphalt

Crowds of up to 200,000 are treated to a rallying spectacular on what is regarded as one of the most difficult events on the IRC calendar due to the proliferation of high-speed blasts through forests and woodland, sections of broken Tarmac and the bumpy nature of some of the roads. Intermittent rain showers also prove a nuisance for the competing crews.

Having enjoyed IRC Supporter Event status in the past, Hungary’s Mecsek Rallye will become a fully-fledged round of the series for the first time in 2011. Based in the town of Pecs – the 2010 European Capital of Culture – in the south-west of the country, the rally is one of Hungary´s most famous and well established and will run for a 44th time in 2011.

With the competitive action contained within a 29-hour window, a huge strain is placed on car and crew. The day/night stages take place on narrow and undulating roads above the glamorous Italian Riviera town and feature fast and flowing sections, frequent changes of rhythm and blind and open corners with rapid climbs and descents. Rain is often a factor, making tyre choice crucial.
