Greetings

Can a new immigrant from the USA, import into Israel a car that is more than two years old, but not quite 30 years old.

Example: A car built in 1985.

In addition, I have no problem, if it is categorized as a collector-car. The car is a collector car.

I am not a returning immigrant. I am a toshav chadash.

I have not already purchased or imported any car into IL.

The bottom line .Yes you can ,that is if you really want to.

I guess if the car is from 1985 it probably has some sentimental value for you/

Keep in mind that if you will bring that car you will loose the right to purchase new car in Israel with aproxx 30 % discount

Good luck and welcome to Israel..

How will Israeli customs, value a 1985 sports car that was never imported into Israel ?

- Will they use Krause's Old Car Guide to obtain the value ?

In addition, will they allow a car to be imported, if it has a bash/minor accident on the body panel ? - A car that is roadworthy nonetheless.

There is two options : the Krause which is ussally used to evaluate cars 30 years and older or they can take the price of the car when sold as new and take of percentage for every year it

has been on the road.Yes if its body damage they will allow it

How about satisfying our curiosity and telling us what car are we talking about ,it is a cars forum after all..?

If the car has never been imported, you will also need to produce certification from a mechanic that he can service the car. Otherwise, your car will not be released from the port and will incur storage fees.

I don't think that a certificate from a mechanic is a big problem. Basically a new immigrant can import whatever he wants and we only have to pay 70% tax (As opposed to 112% tax for a normal citizen). I am going through more or less the same process myself, except for the fact that the car I want to import is a collector's car.

A few important points: first, make sure you have a permit from the department of transport regarding the very car you are importing. If you don't have permission they will export the car and you will have to pay for the transport

Second: Make sure you have every single document that can help you. Photocopy everything and ask a million times how the process works. Don't leave anything to chance

Third: good luck and remember to upload some pictures
