1985, 1988, 1989 Car: 1981 DeLorean
All three films of this trilogy feature this DeLorean-turned-Time Machine. They bought six of them for the original movie. Three were built, running cars, the other three cut up for studio use (a real crime as they only built 8,543, but when the last movie was made, a rough one was found for $4000 and used for the train collision scene). The time travel stuff involved a lot of army surplus and a very large component of the equipment was a hubcap from a 60's Dodge Polara (look real close). There is an article about the construction of the cars in a 1984 issue of Popular Mechanics.
4/10/97- A new photo ('Mr.Fusion') of the car stored at Universal Studios, Florida.
8/2/99- AMC Content: In the first film, Marty and Jennifer sit in the town square, waiting for her father to pick her up. Across the street is a 'new' '84 Jeep Cherokee Chief. Jennifer's father arrives in a 'new' '84 AMC Eagle 4WD wagon, and then a 'new' '84 Jeep Grand Wagoneer passes thru the scene. Coincidence? Not likely as these three vehicles made up the bulk of AMC's 1984 model line up... an obvious, pre-arranged 'commercial' slipped into the film
