In the following pictures you can see the surround being prepared for plating by pulling out the little dings and filing out the blemishes it suffered in the past 77 years. After that I had to repair the broken ends of the Grille at the contact points to the surround. I used soft solder to do this. In the last pictures the grille is back from Derby Chrome Platers. It is expensive but the result is well worth it. In the Background the AC chassis can be seen, and behind it a DB2 Coupe waiting for attention.

Its because few people know how to perform lead-loading properly.

Its a rubbish car that fact is certain. It is interesting to see how the Israeli journalist that took the car out for a test seems to think its pretty good, whilst all over the world the car was ripped apart by journalists. Makes me wonder what other cars he drove in his career ? probably agricultural machinery.

Reminds me of the story about the people who wanted to move to a new house because the light bulb in the toilet wasn't working. Am I the only person that thinks that the best way forward is to loose this 7-9 rule? People burst out laughing when I tell them such a rule exists in Israel. If the majority think its good and that it should stay that way then fine by me. but perhaps the story is different. In UK some historic vehicles are not aloud to be used for commuting to the work place but this is an INSURANCE condition. Other vehicles are permitted for commuting to the workplace. Couldn't this be a better solution?

Might be a really nice guy but at the end of the day where is all that stock that he thought was a treasure going to? its going into the recycling bin. It was his choice to price it up in such a way and to let it go for peanuts as he does now. The guy was an undertaker in his attitude to his stock. its just that instead of having half a day out with him before being buried it had half a century. Plenty of people of his kind are about. Speacialists have a head extraction plate for those stubborn Cyl. Heads . Here is one I made earlier. BTW Alfa have never offered such a plate as a factory tool.

Anyway a small story in the spirit of this Sharshoor. I needed a laminated glass cut quickly for a windscreen for a DB2 drophead I am working on at the moment. The company that cut the glass according to the template supplied (two flat pieces split in the middle) left a glazed edge without polishing it. They where not able to polish it in the time I specified. I rang up a different glazier, I asked if he can polish the edges for me while I wait. He told me to come over, I came in, wearing my overalls that clearly show the marque I am working on. he stopped what he was doing in his small modest shop, and spent a good 3/4 of an hour polishing the edges of my screens to a very acceptable result . He knew I needed it on the spot, He saw my overhauls, He knew he may never see me again as a returning customer. He didnt ask what it was for (culture of privacy) and was extremely friendly. So - how much did he charge me?

לא מבין ככ את התופעה הזו של איסוף כמות רבה של כלי רכב תוך תוכניות רבות וגדולות והתלהבות כנה ואמיתית (ENTHUSIASM) לתחום הרכב הקלאסי כאשר למעשה בשטח אם מורידים את כל הדיבורים מדובר במגרש לאיסוף ברזל. הדבר נכון לא רק לישראל אלא גם במדינות נוספות ואלי במינון מעט שונה. מה שכן באנגליה לפחות בעל הרכבים פתוח להצעות (OFFERS) ומוכן לרוב להיפרד מהמכונית תמורת סכום התואם את שווי השוק. כנל לגבי חלקים.

נשמע כמו אל תקנה. אבל - צריך לזכור שזאת מכונית. היא תוכננה במקור כדי לנסוע וכך גם עשתה בזמנה בצורה מספיק טובה כדי לגרום ליצרן להמשיך ולהתקיים ולייצר את הדגם הבא אחריו. הנה אחת שראיתי בלה מנס קלאסיק על המסלול. אמנום דגם מוקדם יותר אבל המנוע בבסיסו דומה. היא עשתה את כל השלוש שעות שלה בשלושה מקצים בצורה מצוינת, ללא צוותים של מכונאים שיפרקו וירכיבו אותה מחדש לפני כל מקצה כמו שקרה למכוניות אחרות של יצרנים "אמינים" ו"יוקרתיים" בהרבה. וכמובן שבהחלט ייתכן שהמנוע מחזיק רק X קמ במצב של שיפור ככ מאסיבי ובכל זאת היא לא התפרקה לחתיכות על המסלול כמו שקרה ללא מעט מכוניות יקרות בהרבה שמטופלות ע"י הסדנאות המובילות באירופה וחזרו מהארוע הזה יחד עם תואר DNF (DID NOT FINISH(. האוטו הזה עורר ענין רב מאוד בקהל, כפי שניתן לראות מהתמונות בקושי אפשר לראות אותו מרוב אנשים שהיו סביבו כל הזמן. על המסלול הוא היה בעל צליל ככ ייחודי כמו צרעה ממש, ואפשר היה לדעת שהוא מגיע שתי דקות לפני שרואים אותו. הוא גם נסע מהר בהרבה ממה שהייתי מצפה והיציעים הריעו לו במיוחד בישורת של ה-START/STOP. אם זה מה שאתה אוהב, מצא לך מישהו בעל ידע ספציפי לדגם זה (SPECIALIST) שידע להגיד אם מצאת מכונית טובה או לא, ושידע לומר כמה יעלה לתקן את מה שלא תקין, ולשחזר את מה שדורש שחזור. גדי

אולי בגלל זה בארץ המוצא של מכוניתך בדיקת זיהום האוויר בטסט (MOT) היא וויזואלית בלבד, כלומר כל עוד האוטו לא מעשן עשן שחור כבד - עובר.

לדעתי דווקא הזקנה היא שמביאה קצת כבוד למוצרים המתכלים הנמכרים שם.

נראה שהיה יופי של טיול, בטח היו לא מעט מכוניות מודרניות ונהגים משתאים לראות אותן בעליות לירושלים (רובן וודאי לא יורדות מהילוך חמישי וכוונתי לוותיקות יותר כמובן!)
