  1. Rosh Sagoor as per the data for head equiped with Fiat head bolts. there are three possible head bolts for this engine each with his own torque setting, 19 head bolts in total
  3. While waiting for the Rings to arrive I started with the lovely Solex 30 side draught carbs and then the top rings arrived so I could fit them I will write in Hebrew after the pisc are on
  7. Slight progress
  12. We have a cat not a dog it goes Meeeeow Meeeeeeeow Meeeeeeeeeow, in English you wont beleive it
  13. In UK cars suffer from salt corrosion to the chassis and suspension components. Unless the owner chosses the most expensive carwash option that includes a chassis wash from the underside (few people do) . Your car escaped this by only suffering 1 or two UK winters. It also depends how bad the winter was for instance this winter was mild and the gritters were hardly out so roads were mostly salt free. The year before was a bad winter and the roads were salty for about 7 months. Most exotic cars are used usually during the summer months and therefore this usually does not apply to them. the Porsches are an exception as they are used daily by their owners all year round Each person has their own experience with a car and draws conclusions from it. For me the prancing horse carries a sense of occasion that other marques dont have. If this appeals to an owner it makes all the repair bills easier to swallow. Its a question of how much are you prepared to pay for the prancing horse experience. I think a lot depends on wether a particular example is well looked after. a neglected car or one run on a tight budget is a car to stay away from
  14. Thanks Benny!
  15. I guess they are more expensive to maintain properly than a golf GTI. They also drink a lot of petrol. My experience with this kind of car is that it may b affordable to purchase but thats it. the running costs stay up there with the original buying price. I always advise people - if the running cost will be a problem. its best to look at owning something else
  16. Impressive stuff. Koby it seems you are receiving quite a hug from the consensus, it can take edges off beware! Seriously, well done Yohai top pics Gadi
  17. Well this isn't my cup of tea. I don't think its nice or pretty. but it earns me a living and i had quite an intersting job to do on it which was to shape the specially made perspex cowls (700GBP the pair -so careful not to crack or scratch and to make some surrounds for them using 16SWG (or 1.5mm) sheet aluminum) Thanks to my background on DB5's when i used to make surrounds for them I was able to draw on a little bit of experience regarding the behaviour of the material when taken to such an extreme, however this cowl is much more complex in shape than a DB5 cowl so I had to make it up as I went along. I decided to start with a ring approx the correct size as opposed to the DB5 ring where the starting point is a folded L shaped profile. Although I started from a ring I quickly found that I needed to slice it to make it a little smaller so I ended up Tigging it just like the DB5 ones The front grille surround was a easier to do, I folded an L section and shrunk it around annealing it as needed to get the shape. finally I tigged the ends together Gadi
  18. In Accordance with manufacturer specifications the belts needed replacement. OE equipment is Dayco by the way. Some workshops drop the fuel tank in order to access the belts with the engine in situ, but I opted to drop the subframe as it makes life much easier. At the same time I also removed the power steering rack at the front and sent that out for refurbishment. It is not a pleasant job pulling out that rack. one of the coolant radiators (the L/H ) was leaking so that was replaced too, and at the same time a full set of coolant hoses was fitted) At the same time I replaced all the engine and G.box mountings as they were all worn out. and a full service, inc Air con recharge (something the brits dont know too much about...) Last thing I had the car go through a 4 wheel alignment check and adjustment as the steering rack had been out. (same guy who did the DB9 did this one too see the DB9 alignment thread for details) and of course a short test drive, well perhaps not that short , this thing is pretty quick, and revs to 9K very readily. nothing sounds quite like it. these machines they are legend. for me they look right. nice and low and small, you feel like you are sitting in a pod. the famous open gate is magical and precise. Very good for a 20 yr old car Gadi FLC (Four Leaf Clover) Classic Car Services UK
  19. Thanks! Next I replaced the crank plugs as they have are lots of deposits behind them that tend to start dropping out into the oilways and ruin the new engine bearings I positioned the shells and torqued them down to the correct manufacturer settings. locktabs positioned but i like to throw them over before i fit the sump. Parking this up until next week as I need to tend to other projects Chag Sameach to everyone Gadi
  20. Exactly - Israel has stated a few engineering facts relating to light units .and as u say facts should not be argued with
  21. Was this car on the roof of a Daihatsu dealership in the Ir tachtit of Haifa?
  22. Its data are as follows: bore 77mm stroke 69.7mm displacement 1298cc comp. ratio 1:9 max output at 6000 revs 86 bhp max torque at 4600 rpm 11.5 kg/m I cant find data for its weight but my guess is under 100 kg. as i could lift it with another person (i cant say this about your engine Israel!) it will be interesting to get it on a rolling road dyno if the owner agrees to it once its all built This engine was introduced in the early sixties with a smaller displacement but it has the same unique design. I think there are a few examples of this car (and engine) in the holy land
  23. I sent all the relevant parts out to the machine shop. at the same time i set out to prepare and fix broken parts that the other ''mechanic'' left me with first was the sump oil baffle corner i used my tig welder for that. then i started on broken studs in the intake and exhaust manifold .I also cleaned and prepared all the other bits and pieces I love working on Italian engines from the 60s and 70s because all the parts are very beautiful
  24. Tzodek Israel, I scanned this from the Factory manual. Also i started preparing parts for the time of the build. I sorted the alternator first. all parts tested ok apart from the bearings that where noisy. bench testing proved this french alternator is ok NCD for swiftcover 9 yrs.pdf
  25. This Engine had been taken apart, machined, and partially assembled by a ''mechanic'' who then lost interest and it has stood for 2 years until the owner of the engine decided that enough was enough I was then offered the job of making an engine out of this mess. and what a mess. headbolts fitted without cleaning them, big ends and mains torques all wrong, thrust bearings fitted with oil grooves the wrong way round, old std rings used for .40mm os pistons, dirt and debris everywhere, , tight spot on the crank main bearings, and the list goes on and on. I will try to add pics as i progress. to those unfamilair with this lovely power unit it is a tiny 1.3 litre (engine code 818.303) with a 15 degs and a little bit (45'28'') between the two banks allowing for the use of a single block and head
