So you are happy with the state of motorsport events in Israel = good for you I will b happy when there will b at least one track that a full size motorcar can go into top gear on its straight. I dont think this is too much to ask from an OECD member nation in 2014. It is only because of local culture that the pinnacle of motor sport in Israel are the events that you have mentioned (quite seriously too) in your post -

Right you are ? Anyone after a mango cell phone? perhaps a nokia 5120 things move on. Thanks for the genuine effort to help the helpless (that includes myself!) And your ability to cope with all this moaning Gadi -
Thanks, Also thanks to all the members looking and making comment. This car had a lot of metal sandwiched over the rot, probably just to keep it going through the annual test. It had about 3 floor sections on. some put from underneath and some from inside the car. the same on the chassis..eventually it got parked up outside and took a lot of water in the passenger compartment and boot. this finished it off completely. Regarding your question about the welding what post number do you see it on? that way i can explain better Some pictures of the drivers side footwell. I used the old section that i cut out (I cut it out without due care as I was informed that a repro is available) once i found out there are no repros. I completed the missing peices with cereal box cardboard and use that as my pattern. I find this to be the quickest way to fabricate sections
-
And yes unfortunately the 304 cabrio in the pic has a steering wheel in the correct side (depending on point of view) and therefore cannot be imported to Israel
-
The other side took a bit more doing as the rot continued all the way up the chassis rail in the rear to the point .of the rear spring mounting This rear section is very strong and welds to many points in the rear bulkhead as you can see in the pics. It is not a bad fit and didnt need much correcrtion. that was quite good as it is made out of 16swg steel and i didnt really fancy having to knock that around with a hammer In general this car has an impressive chassis for its year. the backbone box section is very wide and uses 3mm thick steel. All weak metal along the sill side sections was cut out and new metal let in as required For the next set of pics I had to fabricate from scratch a drivers side footwell section as the suppliers (neumuller) ran out of stock and there were no plans of another batch to be done in the near future but i will upload them during the week Gadi

If you had bothered to read all the way through - I offered it (half jokingly)to anyone who has a summer (or winter) house in Europe. Eu countries do not have laws against the position of steering wheels in a motor vehicle
-
A customer of mine came to say hello as they do (and kill an hour of works time by chatting) well of course he only wanted to show one of his cars off and as usual they never drive them over unless its for sale. I still find these cars fantastic and the demand for them isn't there yet. Insurance is only 80 GBP a year and the owner is happy to take 4.9K GBP for it. He just cant find a buyer. So if anyone of the forum readers has a house or flat with parking anywhere in Europe this would be ideal if a bit bling!

I would like to thank Shlomi who responded to the general moaning on this thread (including my own) and requested data from people having difficulty. I noticed people mentioning the browser as a possible reason for difficulty and once i installed chrome i was able to load pics without a problem. I was previously on ie10. Thanks Shlomi for responding to the complaints and thanks for the helpful discussion by the users. Gadi -
I continued by cleaning inside the chassis rails and outrigger section and applying some rust prevention materials before starting to weld in the new sections. most sections are available from a german supplier and the parts are a good fit compared to the rubbish repro panel sections that is available for other marques And so I continued to offer up mark out, trim as required and fit both front and rear floors. I fitted the footwell at the same time to make sure everything lines up and all sections are square to each other The rear floors are different side to side because of the single rear seat design unique to 2-door mercs of old
-
Finally I am able to load pics on! Thanks to the thread with all the moaning about the new mimshak I found some useful info there. I installed a chrome browser and the picture loaded in a few seconds! brilliant. Well I have done quite a bit to this 190sl. After making good the front bumper mountings I put it on the chassis roller and cut out some floors I then set out to cut out the bottom legs of the chassis and sill sections that have had metal slapped over the rust in the past. If a bomb had gone off under this car the occupants would have been safe. I had to go into the sill side sections in some places. I also had to cut out the footwell

I have turned down my writing due to not being able to load pictures. I did not have this problem with the previous interface. -
Hi Israel Thanks for your help. I successfully registered to the photobucket however when trying to paste the URL on CF I receive a message saying error: invalid file. I think I better stick to tangible objects Thanks Anyway

I would add - Lo Pashut, Ktzat Murkav, Tipa Savooch, Me'at Ptaltal - to organize an event like this and keep everybody happy. well done, to the owner of the Giulia - may you enjoy your motor as much as I enjoy my Giulia. -
I have put car on a roller Jig. Work continues into the floors. I will also need most of the inner sill lower sections and some chassis lower sections. I have been trying to upload pictures but for some reason cannot do it. I click attach a file and then browse and choose a picture (they are 200KB ) but when I click upload the upload icon goes round and round but that's it. Any help via pm will be appreciated Thanks! Gadi

One of them is well balanced the other has taken about 60 yrs to hone into something that is acceptable! Haha no offence to the car that has been likened to an attempt to throw a hammer with the shaft first Bear in mind there was a slight price difference between the two, and the Porsche is in a niche of its own, not exotic but not far off, and to this day does not really have any natural challangers to that niche -
Tzodek Generally the lasers project the rear wheel faces to the front wheels indicating a datum point that is then checked against manufacturer specs. The rest is standard wheel alignment, the lasers project the wheel faces to measure toe in /out and a clever gyroscopic devices can be fitted via magnet to the wheel face to measure camber on all four wheels and castor (on the front obviously) tool is expensive (around 2.5K gbp) but it makes checking alignment quite easy. I lost the DB9 pics in the transfer to the computer i only have one but the DB9 is high on the ramp (lift in IL) so i attach a pic of a Rapide instead. this one is for sale 2010 with 15K miles was 180K GBP new and now is 79,995. now that's what i call depreciation! bear in mind steering whelel is on the side that is not yet permitted for use in IL.

TIG is not spot welding I don't understand what you mean by Tig spot. I do not experience the metal getting pulled in, you can always buid up the pool with a bit of rod. Pics for today, batt tray after flashing off, Brake servo tray, and an awkward piece at the back of the inner wing where it meets the drivers footwell (the spot welds can be seen above) I had to let a small piece into the footwell too. It was a funny shaped piece and had to fit on many different planes. I drilled holes into it so that i could plug weld it into the footwell section. At least i had plenty of room as i cut out the front wing lower section as this car is going to have both front wings and a full front valance

I serviced this fine motor a 20K mile service. Part of the service is a wheel alignment check, I was amazed at how the car was within all factory specs Not only that it was also the same side to side. pretty good for the brits! I decided to put 4 tyres on it too. it wasn't too bad at around 950 pounds for tyres alone

Toda, Soda blasting is not as aggressive and if done correctly will usually not buckle the outer panels. The Blue coat is a protective etch to prevent surface corrosion. This time I enclose pics of the battery tray area. two of the four edges needed new edges so I used tig to weld them in. the tray itself was drilled to allow for plug welding all round, this is an acceptable replacement (and in my opinion a stronger one) to the spot resistance welds that the tray would have had at the factory

Its a shame that such used to be the case where in the late seventies these cars did not have a dealership representation. It leaves a great big car culture gap . But then again motorsport was not allowed then and today well... a law has been passed, soon there may be stuff to write about Anyway cracking motors I can only dream of seeing them out on the road in the month of Jan on UK roads - no chance. Did you stop at a service/ petrol station and ask the attendant to check coolant level on the 911? its a standing joke to ask the apprentice mechanics to check at UK garages -
This is what it looked like before soda blasting. If it wasn't such a strong car the soda blasting would have blown it all away...
