Genady, your LTS did not cost $ 15,000, haha. Here's an Aeromax sleeper for $ 750 http://used.4statetrucks.com/ go to "sleepers" and press +, you will find it. May be a bit short, but the stand up LTL one for $650 may make an alternative. Other useful addresses http://www.buyandselltrucksleepers.com/ http://www.sjtruck.com/ http://usedtruckparts.ca/index.aspx?val=c11_m13 The last one is where the red sleeper was listed, for a bit more - $1200 - but I think all these prices can be haggled down Good luck, T

Wait here, I'll be back. T:idea: PS: Can I take one of the pics of your truck out of the site? May be useful if questions are asked
-
I hope it all works for you - that 9000 looks like a good basis for restoration and it sure helps to have the chassis exposed like this... Somehting for for inspiration, I hope. More here http://public.fotki.com/modeltrucks25thscale/truck_brochures/ford/ T

:mm_yeah: Congratulations - one question: can you get on the road after all this time? By the way, it would still be a good idea to change the oil and make sure there is no oil in the tanks - don't forget, the water stays right at the bottom, so if the tank is not near empty, you will not get the water into the fuel line, but once you are below a certain level, its disaster time... T

Genady, in the meantime if you give me: 1. the engine number (on the engine, forget the papers, they make mistakes. Also, take pics of the engine from both sides), 2. chassis number, 3. take pics of the transmission and the gearchange in the cab, I could ask for you about the details. T

Genadi, first, congratulations, this is very good news for you (no need to settle for simple R600, haha). Secondly, everything Rony said - particularly about the fuel, I've seen what what happenes when water gets into the fuel system and it's not nice. Even "simple" dirt is a headache. I don't know about the 9000's fuel system (I mean, from the tanks to the feed pump) but I am asking myself if it's not possible to disconnect the suction pipe and feed from a jerrycan until you have time to wash the tanks properly. As for the water, for a short start you will probably be OK but do not use old water without additive and softener for long period - not worth saving money on this. Also, I would drain the old oil and put new in - god knows how old the stuff in there is. Have a fire extinguisher ready and a helper to disconnect the battery if you need to in a hurry. Make sure you have a way to stop the engine mechanically (I don't know if the screw Rony has mentioned is one to by-pass an electrical shut down valve),because usually diesels DON'T stop when you disconnect the battery. Last thing: just a suggestion, but it may be a good idea to join the US forum I'm on, these people all have experience with US trucks and are helpful for questions on engine specs, g/box, axles, parts etc: http://forums.aths.org/InstantForum414/Default.aspx Just scroll down to tech questions and tips, you'll see what I mean. Introduce yourself, explain what the problem is and people will help. Good luck, T

Corvair? Russian embassy? Are you sure your'e not talking about one of these? Looks similar, has engine in the right place...T -
Genadi, you probably saw a 8000, like this one used in the copper mines in the Negev - picture by kind permission from Allon 58. The ones we had in Israel are ex-American contractors (the ones who built the IAF bases in the 1970s) and left them here. T PS: Yes, it does have Leyland wheels, hahaha
-
Not a BMC then, haha, T

The following may answer your first question: "ASKAM, with more than 40 years of experience has created a truck classics in Turkey with Fargo and Desoto brand names and has been building up Turkey since 1964 and serving a wide range of applications from construction to long distance transportation. Being one of the first truck manufacturers, Askam has changed its name from Chrysler Kamyon to Askam Kamyon in 2002 and passed through a duration of re-organization in 2003. After making a big push with new Fargo Hi-Ex series of heavy dufy trucks in 2004 Askam extended its product range by introducing very lately to the Turkish market its brand new light duty vehicle Fargo Fora designed by Turkish- English co-operation for the professionals aiming the best in commerce." The home page: http://www.askam.com.tr/v2/english/default.aspx I don't know what the minibus is but it could be a BMC (another name preserved by the Turks). The question is, why is there no ISRAELI truck manufacturer? T
-
The main difference was cab + wings - the Israeli ones had a wider cab without the little seperate vent windows before the doors Turbo? What turbo? You mean Leyland the 690 engine? Were there any turboed Beavers in Israel? I thought there was one or two with localy assembled turbos but this was not a success. Maybe Rony would know... T

Any pics of the engine? the 1800 and the 2300 are completely different engines, I cannot see how they can be confused... Just a qustion, T
-
130Km/H is right - when they first arrived there was no limiter, I remember travelling with them. The Scanias were also quick in the beginning... T

I know, I know, just a joke... Having said that, there are ways to make a standard 600 go a lot quicker, handle and stop better and still look "normal" so that you do not get problems with the cops, testers etc. No need for permits - I'm sure you know what I mean. T
-
Shmulik Valency's show T800 Kenworth. He uses it like a private car (yes) - it's well known amongst the heavy transaport freaks in Israel. T

Genadi, if I am allowed a stupid question (or not so stupid, I hope) is there any Ministry of Transport regulation that says you cannot assemble a sleeper on a semi even if this was not an original fitment? Even if you need to fill up forms and pay them something, will it not make sense to get a truck without one and buy a used sleeper (even in Israel you can find such things) and assemble it later? By the way, I know you don't like them, but pricewise, the cheapest option you are looking at is the Mack R600. Parts for them are still available in the US for reasonable prices, they are simple and reliable once you got all the bugs sorted and R600 also has an important Israeli history (assembled here). A sleeper may not be original (I think only a few Army Glasfibre front R600s had them) but will get you the "look" for a lot less than a CH (the Blue Rino) or a Freightliner. The last ones are still used in everyday work and the owners will want good price for them... Just a thought. All the best, T

Much better

Genadi, I'm not in Israel, but brother is:lol:, and he takes pics when he notices something interesting חולגי If it's not deserted, it's certainly neglected - a shame, these are rare even in the US... T
