Not true. You can have kit cars in every state in the US. The only differences are related to EPA and emissions - but even tough states like California allow a limited number of cars that are "self built" per year.

I had a 1972 2002. It was actually about as fast as the 1602 (a bit heavier - there was no real difference in performance). As for wet driving conditions - if the car is in stock condition (as mine was) - they sure are a handful in the wet. I have other RWD cars and this car was, without any doubt, the most "interesting" The steering is vintage feeling - too heavy when you go slow, too light when you go fast. Practicality is compromised because of the funny proportions (huge trunk, small back seat). Despite all of these issues - these are fantastic cars, lots of fun to drive, easy to work on and if you do not try to keep them stock - easy to modify to fix most of the problems mentioned above.

Lotus stopped building 7s in 1972 - and Caterham started in 1972 - they built Series 4 cars for a couple of years and then went back to Series 3 (thank god) - so this is very likely an early S3 Caterham. Moti is absolutely right - the most important thing in a 7 is the chassis. Anything else is just window dressing...

I do not think so. I think it was owned by a local marine supplier with a rather large and interesting car collection (he had a Ford RS200 as well). I will probably see one of Dennis's closer friends tonight at the local Alfa club meet and I will ask him for sure - but I do not think Dennis ever owned a T16. I had a chance to meet Dennis several times on and off the track and I do not remember him talking about a 205.
