אני הולך להתקין אותם בדלתות עם בידוד מינימלי - רכב ליסינג, לא מתאמץ יותר מידי, רק רוצה מערכת שאוהב לשמוע בה עם רכיבים שאני אוהב את התוצאה שלהם.

 

ברכב הפרטי איפה שכבר יש לי תיבות למידבאסים של אילייט - אני מתכוון מתישהו לבנות את התיבות מחדש - על כל הדיפון ואז גם המידבאסים פחות יפריעו לרגליים ואני אתקן להם את הזווית המוזרה שנוצרה להם בבניה הראשונה.

It is always a pleasure to listen to as well as create music. Anytime I get to spend doing either is time well spent. Over the years it has been my great pleasure to listen to quite a few competition car audio world championship cars as well as perform music on the national stage. With the reference of music composition I have the ability to listen to an audio system and know whether or not it is an accurate reproduction of the original performance. In car audio the subwoofer is the most over obsessed driver. I tend to find this humorous considering the amount of information that a subwoofer actually plays tends to be very small. That being said the list of the best subwoofers is a short one. Well, I have found another subwoofer to add to that short list.

For the review of the Stereo Integrity Magnum V4, I listened to it in a vehicle that is not mine; however I have become very familiar with it over the past few months through assisting the owner with tuning the audio system. Thank you again to jdc753 for allowing me to listen to the Mag V4.

 

System Composition

Subwoofer – One Stereo Integrity Magnum Version 4 Dual 2 Ohm

 

Driver Impression: This time I did not get to look at the driver. From photos it seems to be a very intelligent design with modern attractive features. From conversations with people that know the company; the driver was in preproduction for quite a while. I am told that every detail of the driver was scrutinized during preproduction.

 

Installation/Tuning: The subwoofer is enclosed in a 1.02 cubic foot box, which is located between the two front seats. The cone is facing downwards towards the floorboard carpet. It is wired in an arrangement so that it can show a one-ohm load at the amp. A one-ohm load gives the driver a full 1500 watts. This is a bit above the recommended range listed on the Stereo Integrity website. In listening to he subwoofer I felt that it was very capable on handling this amount of power at normal listening levels for long periods of time. The subwoofer is controlled actively though the head-unit. The crossover filter used is 50 Hz at 24 db.

 

Listening: For the listening of this subwoofer I did not get to use my usual subwoofer test disc. Instead I used some music that I familiar with. The first song I played was “Planet Krypton” by John Williams from the Superman soundtrack. This song has been the long-standing track used by IASCA for sub-bass judging. This track has two parts to listen for; first the authority of 18ish Hz organ pedal tones, and then the resolution of the combination cymbal and kettle drum crescendo at the end. Both parts were performed incredibly well. Most 12-inch subwoofers can perform the organ tones, however few sound natural at doing so like the Mag V4 does. In fact I got chills during this passage of the song. I haven’t gotten chills in quite a while during that track. For the kettledrum crescendo I have found most subwoofers tend to rumble through the notes. The Mag was articulate through the whole crescendo with distinct, discernable mallet hits all the way. The second track used was "Come Together" by Brian Bromberg from his Wood disc. First off let me say that Brian is a master at his craft. All of his discs are wonderful. For “Come together” I look for a good mid to bass transition, speed, and articulation and low distortion. This track being acoustic it is easy to pick up deficiencies with the driver. The Mag was able to perform this track flawlessly; it was able to give a completely accurate production of Brian’s upright bass. After listening to these specific tracks I listened to a variety of genres of music. Each genre asked the drivers to perform in a certain way; one thing that stuck out was the transparency of the driver. The goal of most audiophiles is to have a system that disappears, a system that you cant tell you are listening to speakers. The Mag has that capability of disappearing!

 

In conclusion the guys at Stereo Integrity have hit one out of the park. They have created a subwoofer that does not have very many blatant weaknesses. This driver is wonderful and I have no qualms listing it in my top ten of favorite subwoofers of all time, maybe even my top five.

My review will follow the same format as Jim's for consistency sake.

 

A big thanks for Nick for allowing a basshead like myself the opportunity to play with a driver so far from my normal exposure to the large SPL drivers that take a ton of power. The mag is certainly a unique driver.

 

Jim and I auditioned this driver in his '94 E-150, under the exact same test conditions used for other listening sessions we've done. Power was provided by a PG Tantrum T1200.1, set to 800W @ 4 ohms. In use, the woofer needed nowhere near that level of power to reach its full potential, IMO. Enclosure used was 1 cubic foot, sealed. The woofer was lowpassed @ 63Hz, 24dB/oct.

 

INITIAL THOUGHTS:

 

When I first recieved this prototype I am used to seeing very "unique" ways of shipping. Items ranging from pool noodles and foam to packing peanuts are common to find. However with this proto the shipping was double boxed and I would guess to be very close to the packaging that will be used for production models. The build quality was excellent and to be honest I was a bit concerned to begin with when I realized how unique this driver would be. I was very surprised to see very clean glue joints and neatly soldered terminals.

 

WHAT'S TO LIKE:

 

I won't go into as much detail as Jim did for the sealed review, but honestly this driver was designed to be used in a sealed box and will only be recommend to be used in a sealed box. Ported drastically reduces the power handling due to the soft suspension used. After all this driver was designed to be a low cost, small mounting depth, small box driver. Nick aimed for a 1 cf sealed box for this driver and hit it dead on. I would think a smaller box would do ok and a slightly larger box wouldn't be horrible, but 1cf is where its at. Sealed this driver excelled and took all the amp wanted. I even found a Young Jeezy CD in Jim's cd case to throw at the mag and it sounded good, for the source used. It played as loud as the ported 12" driver Jim daily drives with.

 

WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE:

 

Well in case you haven't figured it out from the previous statements in this review, ported is not the enclosure for this driver. Now I know this will concern some of you, but you have to realize the way this driver was designed, you don't need the larger ported box to compensate for lack of output as it has plenty sealed. By using the recommended 1cf sealed box and 600-800 watts of power you will have one of the most impressive sounding subwoofer setups around, and still have respectable output. Now if you are only concerned with loudness this driver obviously isnt for you, but if you are looking for a nice sounding driver, especially if you have limited space, this is the driver for you.

 

One other issue that I haven't had a chance to discuss with Nick and is a very very minor issue is the terminals. The basket is painted and I suspect that it is insulated so this probably isn't an issue, but I will state it now. The wire going through the terminals, because of the slim basket design, comes close to the basket if your not careful installing it. As I said this is a minor issue and if installed properly you wont have to worry about it, but it may be something to be addressed now that saves a few headaches for installers.

 

OVERALL:

 

When I first installed this driver and began listening to it with Jim I was very impressed with it. Something that comes to mind is Jim saying, " I am going to have a hard time recommending Vanadiums when the mag sounds this good, especially at is price point." I believe that sums up my opinion of the mag in one sentence.

 

Low price, Small box, low power requirements, all with the quality of Si products, I'd say a match made in heaven.

לא הגזמת קצת? אולי זה הסאב SQ הכי טוב שאתה שמעת, זה שיש עליו כמה ביקורות טובות לא עושה אותו הסאב הטוב בעולם.

מצטער, שמעתי אותו אצלך ואני עדיין מעדיף את האבוק 12" שלי על פני כל סאב אחר ששמעתי.

the Mag is just flat out louder. The SQ is the same, MAX may have a slghtly higher extension into the 90hz range but 80hz and below they're even and at 40hz and below the Mag is just a bully of a sub. Mag is much a SQL sub than the Max.

אתה שמעת ארסנל לא האבוק.

אם אתה רוצה להיות קצת יותר רציני ולא סתם לזרוק דברים באוויר, תכתוב השוואה נורמלית ומפורטת על חסרונות ויתרונות של הסאב הזה אל מול הסאבים ששמעת, כמובן תפרט באיזה תיבות שמעת אותם, איזה מגברים\HU, כמה חתכת אותם וכו'.

סתם ככה לזרוק באוויר משפטים זה קל.
